OpenEdge 10: product overview

OpenEdge 10 is the most recent release of the OpenEdge platform. This platform provides all the tools to build complete, mission-critical applications. OpenEdge then gives you the ability to deploy and manage those applications across a wide range of platforms and configurations—host-based, client/server, n-tier, and in Web-service environments, open and proprietary systems, and character and graphical interfaces—without changing the application’s business logic. This allows developers to focus on solving business problems, not on reacting to changes in the organization’s computing configuration.

The OpenEdge platform is a comprehensive platform for developing, deploying, integrating, and managing business applications:

Development Tools — OpenEdge Architect, OpenEdge Studio, WebSpeed® Workshop, 4GL Development System, Translation Manager, and Roundtable® TSMS (total software management system).
Client Processing — GUI client, character client, WebSpeed Agents, WebClient™, and Open Clients (Java™, .NET, and Web services).
Business Processing — The OpenEdge Advanced Business Language, a 4GL specifically purposed for expressing business processes as software logic.
Analytical Processing — Business Intelligence and reporting (Crystal Reports™, Progress RESULTS®, and Progress Report Engine).
Integration — SonicMQ® and Sonic ESB®.
